Ronny used his SE hours to help with his children’s school musical
“At my children’s school, a WhatsApp group was created asking if there were any creative parents willing to help with the musical. I’m quite creative, so I thought it would be fun. The musical was set on a farm, and a background for the stage decor needed to be made. I offered to do this if they had an example of what they wanted. I then worked on it in the evenings and weekends.
Only after some time did I realize that I might be able to use my SE hours for this. I had read about it earlier in a Samen Sterk newsletter and discussed the idea with my buddy. He confirmed that it was indeed allowed, so after that, I used my SE hours for painting and making set pieces. There was quite a rush to get everything finished on time, so I sometimes needed extra time during the day to work on it. These hours came in handy for that. Later, they also asked me to film the musical performance for the grandparents, which took place during the day. In the past, I used to make videos at children’s parties, but at some point, I no longer had time for it. So, I had to dust off my camera, but I enjoyed filming and editing again.
I still have a few SE hours left. I’ll probably use them again for a personal initiative or volunteer work. I always find it meaningful to use these hours to help others, in any way possible. I expect there will be more opportunities at school where I can contribute.”
