Feeling your best with orthomolecular therapy
Healthy eating, regular exercise, relaxation, and good sleep – all essential components of a healthy lifestyle. Orthomolecular therapy can support you in achieving this. Whether you want to test for health issues, address or prevent complaints, or simply live a healthier life to feel your best, orthomolecular therapy can help. And as it happens, we have a Marel colleague who is also an orthomolecular therapist: Marleen Verburg (R&D Technologist within Innovation PF).
Why did you become a orthomolecular therapist?
At 18, I started studying food technology, which further ignited my passion for nutrition and health. I realized that I wanted to do more with this field—beyond conventional nutrition or medicine. I truly believe that you can build good health with the fundamental building blocks your body is made of. Everything is interconnected.
As an orthomolecular therapist, I support people who want to get more out of life by taking good care of themselves. I always say: give yourself the greatest gift—taking care of your body, because you’ll be living in it for a lifetime.
What is orthomolecular therapy?
Orthomolecular therapy focuses on continuous care for the body, incorporating healthy nutrition, exercise, relaxation, and sleep. It is based on the body’s natural strength and can be applied both preventively and during recovery from illness. This approach examines the body’s balance on multiple levels, such as the hormonal system, immune system, and digestion. I can assess these factors through an EMB test.
EMB (Energetic Morphological Blood) testing is a method where I guide the client through a questionnaire and take a few drops of blood. The lab results provide a more detailed analysis than a standard blood test, offering a comprehensive overview, including vitamin and mineral deficiencies, gut imbalances, stress sensitivity, and more. The EMB test helps me understand what your body needs, allowing me to provide more personalized and concrete advice. However, an EMB test is not a requirement for orthomolecular therapy—it depends entirely on your specific goals.
Who is this therapy for?
It’s truly for everyone! The youngest client I’ve had was four years old. The approach varies for each person—some come for a complete health check with an EMB test, while others seek guidance on a specific concern such as stress, sleep, or increasing energy levels. During an initial consultation, we determine what best suits the individual’s needs.
What is the goal of this therapy?
The goal of this therapy is to support your body in becoming self-sufficient and maintaining balance. To achieve this, it’s important to understand what your body needs. The clients I have worked with have experienced significant improvements in their quality of life. Many struggled with issues that affected their well-being, such as fatigue, poor sleep, or digestive problems. It can be incredibly frustrating not knowing what’s wrong, and I’m grateful to help people gain more clarity and feel better in their own bodies.
